On a fateful day in 1977, the idyllic skies above Tenerife Airport transformed into a scene of unspeakable tragedy. On March 27th, two colossal Boeing 747 passenger jets, one operated by KLM and the other by Pan Am, collided on the runway, leaving a tragic legacy.

Ground control had cleared the KLM jet for takeoff, but due to a misinterpretation, the Pan Am jet attempted to cross the runway at the same time.
